Alright, after seeing yesterday's news paper interview between Tash Aw (my idol) and Wang Lee Hom (who? just kidding...OK, I get it, it''s not funny) I am forced to take back whatever witty, sarcastic, and insulting things I have ever said (but only in this lifetime) about this literary genius.
Ok, in my defense, I have to say that growing up in a chinese ed. environment sometimes does this to you. If you had a thousand crazy chinese girls who can't speak (or write) a single word of english, goin loony eyed over a taiwanese rapper you'd probably come to same conclusion as I have:
This ***hole is some stuck-up pretty-boy chinese-faced over-arrogant english-ignorant duchebag.
So I never really bothered to research on him.
Anyways, that's besides the point. Point is not only is Wang Lee Hom NOT said above insults, but he's also a literary genius/body god.
In the interview with Tash Aw, I've come to realize that he was born in New York (who doesn't love NYC?) he goes on about composer Leonard Bernstein’s famous lectures at Harvard in 1973, Chinese vs English linguistics, cultural dichotomies, his early hatred of German composer and music theorist Paul Hindemith. AND, since he grew up in UK, WAng only started learning Chinese when he was 17!!!
He's deep and the opposite of the superficial lame guy that I've labled him as for so many years.
So if you hate him (or me, whichever works) this interview will totally change the way you see him now. And sorry to all the Jay Chow fans but I hate him now and toally idolize Wang (Meh, you win some you lose some)
3 footprints:
hi, just a passerby here~
Lee Hom is really talented!! and I love himmmm! -.- well, i dislike Jay Chou too! xD
good to know...can't believe i spent almost a fifth of my life thinking he's another superficial chinese gay ass rapper (no offense)
he is also a graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston! so he has real chops, regardless of what you think of mandopop
