The Doctor made my Christmas

So first things first, I'm going to start off this post by saying I know most of the wonderful, awesome, cute furry little people who read my blog don't know who The Doctor is since they don't air Doctor Who episodes in Malaysia.

Which is A SHAME.

But despite that awful shame (Aw heck), I'm going to blog about it anyhoo. And if you'll be so kind as to bear with me, who knows, there might be another Whovian being borne into the world. And heaven knows, Malaysia could use a lot more.

Lets get things straight: I hate Christmas. But not really hate to be exact, more like a sad sort of keening love hate relationship that I have with that big white glowy, frosty festival. Christmas and me, we're more like ex lovers. Each time Christmas comes around, I look outside my bedroom window and see the tropical skyline, imagining thousands of households all around Malaysia sitting around their plastic trees, singing songs with loved ones, holding hands and passing presents.

Then I turn around and I'm transported back into my dark room, and there's no other time of the year where I wish as much that I was back in Austin, Texas USA. The house is as quiet as a mouse, but downstairs instead of presents around a tree, sits last night's leftovers. The parents are asleep and I lie awake with my eyes glued to the ceiling, watching as another lonely non-christmas passes me by.

It's like Valentines day for singles. I could just weep.

This may start to sound cheesy, since I'm basing my happiness and a personal moment on a TV series. But for anyone who's ever watched Doctor Who (The classic or the latest seasons, doesn't matter) you'd know that Dr who isn't like most series. Hats off to Steven Moffat (The script writer for Dr Who) on his Christmas special - A Christmas Carol for once again pulling off the series's Pixar-esque soul-upliftingness . And seriously, hats off, I mean I am such a huge fan of the man.

To be honest, sometimes at the start of a Dr who episode, I feel a bit lost like I'm watching another show. In A Christmas Carol, the episode shoots off with a pristine white tribute to Star Trek with people rushing around like the ship was about to fall crash and burn. It was. Then the Doctor's two companians, Amy and her beau, whatshisname rush in looking all dapper and dashing-like.

The rest of the show unfolds with this brilliant and I mean brilliant alien-and-spaceships version of The Christmas Carol with a cranky, old world owning tyrant portraying what should be Mr Scrooge. If thats sounds cheesy  already, don't worry it gets even better. 'Scrooge' won't let the spaceship land. The doctor wants the spaceship to land. 'Scrooge' is cruel. But his father was crueler. Fast forwarding even more, The Doctor finds a way to change him up, turn him around and make him better just in time to save Christmas.

I won't go into long details, but you can read the review here. Or go watch Dr Who A Christmas Carol yourself here.
